Discipleship Training
A Venture in Learning and Accountability

Introduction

Is 'disciplined' a word that characterizes your Christian walk? Do you want it to be? Have you ever discipled a believer in Christ, placing him or her firmly on the path of spiritual growth? Would you like to?

Discipleship Training seeks to fulfill these needs. Discipleship Training offers a Disciple's Manual and a Discipler's Guide. It provides a way to develop the daily disciplines of the Christian life needed for spiritual maturity.

The Greatest Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) is never completed until new converts are made into disciples. Sadly, discipleship is often the undiscovered art of the Church. As in the realm of athletics, the early Church provided the training ground where believers developed into mature Christian disciples. Since today's Church tends not to emphasize discipleship, few are left to effectively accomplish its mission in the world; and many falter in the hectic environment of today's society.

What do we mean by discipling? It is the teaching and encouraging of believers through systematic, personal and Spirit-directed training that holds them accountable for developing Christian disciplines. Critical disciplines include daily quite times with the Lord and Bible reading.

The major ingredient is accountability. "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." (Luke 12:48)

The Plan is a series of four nine-week sessions in training and accountability. Each week a disciple or disciples met with a discipler for one hour to consider:

a. Instruction (20 minutes) c. Accountability (10 minutes)
b. Assignment (10 minutes) d. Prayer / Sharing (20 minutes)

Perfect attendance is required of all disciples with make-up sessions expected in cases of unavoidable absence. Three absences for any reason, or failure to meet the course requirements result in the need to drop out and repeat the study at a later time. Certificates of completion are given only to those who make a whole-hearted attempt to apply themselves to the material.

The Disciple's Manual is in workbook form to be filled in weekly as the discipler teaches. The Discipler's Guide is in comprehensive form with teaching aids available. Discipling can be done on a one-to-one basis or as a group. The material geared more for groups; however, it is easily adaptable for use with individuals.
